The Wise Old Woman and Peredur鈥听
Deep within an ancient forest lived a wise old woman known as the Lady of the Forest. She dwelt in an ivy-clad cottage among towering鈥痶rees and鈥痶ended to鈥痶he plants that grew around her. From them, she drew healing powers to aid鈥travellers鈥痺ho crossed her threshold.鈥听
One day, while gathering herbs, she saw a young man approaching. He wore simple clothes, yet his eyes shone with curiosity and resolve. At once, she knew him to be Peredur, son of鈥疎vrawc, and sensed that his path was bound to great deeds.鈥听
鈥淕reetings,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hat brings you to this part of the forest?鈥濃
鈥淚 seek to become a鈥痥night,鈥 Peredur replied.鈥听
Sensing his sincerity, the Lady of the Forest welcomed him into her鈥痗osy鈥痗ottage and sat with him by the fire. There, she shared the wisdom she had gathered.鈥听
She taught him first about compassion and humility. 鈥淎 true knight must put others before himself,鈥 she said. 鈥淪trength means little without kindness.鈥 She showed him how to tend the injured, using鈥痯lants to make healing salves.鈥She also taught him patience and perseverance. Together they鈥痺alked through鈥痶he forest, tracking animals and learning to鈥observe鈥痶he natural world. 鈥淥ften,鈥 she told him,鈥鈥渢丑别鈥痑nswers we seek come only to those who watch and wait.鈥鈥听
Peredur listened closely, asking questions and learning quickly. Over time, he grew not only in skill, but in鈥痗haracter;鈥痟e was鈥痬ore thoughtful, more considerate, and wiser than before.鈥听One evening, as the sun sank behind the trees, the Lady of the Forest knew it was time for him to leave. 鈥淵ou have learned much here,鈥 she said. 鈥淣ow you must carry these lessons into the wider world.鈥濃听
Peredur thanked her and set out from the cottage, ready to face what lay ahead with wisdom and courage. The Lady of the Forest watched him disappear into the trees, knowing his story would live on in legend.听
